Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Thecla.
Saint Thecla embraced Christianity after hearing the preaching of Paul the Apostle. Her parents tried to convince her to marry a pagan, but Saint Thekla refused to renounce her faith.
When the Paul the Apostle was expelled and began his missionary work in Antioch, Saint Thecla followed him. For her faith she received torture and persecution, but she endured everything with the power of God.
She passed away peacefully at an old age.
Apolytikion of Saint Thecla
All aflame with love for your Creator, * from the teachings of the sacred preacher, * you disregarded as fleeting all things mundane. * And being bold in the face of the penalties, * you gave yourself as a beautiful gift to God. * Thekla, glorious companion of the Apostle Paul, * we pray you entreat your Bridegroom, Christ, * and ask Him to grant us His great mercy.
