Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saints Galacteon and His Wife, Episteme.
Saints Galacteon and Episteme were faithful Christians, who had dedicated their lives to the teachings of our Church. When the emperor Decius began the persecution of Christians, Saint Galacteon found refuge on Mount Sinai and Saint Episteme in a convent.
However, the lord Ursos tracked down Saint Galacteon and arrested him for his faith. With this news, Saint Episteme surrendered to be close to her companion and testify together, as she did. After severe torture, in 250 AD they were beheaded by the army of Ursus.
Troparion of Saints Galacteon and Episteme
Let us the faithful honor these two betrothed athletes: / Galaction and modest Episteme. / Their ascetic labors blossomed into martyrdom, therefore we cry to them: / “Glory to Him who has strengthened you! / Glory to Him who has crowned you! / Glory to Him who through you grants healing to all!”
