Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Blaise, Hieromartyr and Bishop of Sebaste.
Saint Blaise had medical knowledge and selflessly helped all those in need. Because of his charitable work, he was elected Bishop of Sebastien, and thus was able to offer more help to his community.
During the persecution of the Christians, Saint Blaise was arrested by the emissaries of the prefect Agricola and was horribly tortured to deny his faith. When they realized the unshakable faith of the Saint, they beheaded him.
Troparion of Saint Blaise
By sharing in the ways of the Apostles, / you became a successor to their throne. / Through the practice of virtue, you found the way to divine contemplation, O inspired one of God; / by teaching the word of truth without error, you defended the Faith, / even to the shedding of your blood. / Hieromartyr Blaise, entreat Christ God to save our souls.
