Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Anastasia the Great Martyr, Deliverer from Bonds.
Saint Anastasia the Great Martyr, Deliverer from Bonds was born in Rome to a wealthy family and was baptized a Christian because of her mother. When she grew up, her pagan father married her to the Roman Poplius, so she did her Christian work in private.
She also got the name "Healer" because she often visited imprisoned and tortured Christians with medicines. She, also, gave them strength to endure the tortures.
Poplius discovered her faith and handed her over to Emperor Diocletian, who ordered her arrest and torture. When she did not deny her faith, Saint Anastasia the Great Martyr was burned at the stake in 290 AD.
Apolytikion of Saint Anastasia the Healer
O Lord Jesus, unto Thee Thy lamb doth cry with a great voice: O my Bridegroom, Thee I love; and seeking Thee, I now contest, and with Thy baptism am crucified and buried. I suffer for Thy sake, that I may reign with Thee; for Thy sake I die, that I may live in Thee: accept me offered out of longing to Thee as a spotless sacrifice. Lord, save our souls through her intercessions, since Thou art great in mercy.
