Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Meropi.
Saint Meropi was born in Ephesus in the early 3rd century AD. At an early age, she was orphaned by a father and was brought up by her mother who was a faithful Christian. She prayed daily and often visited the tomb of Saint Ermioni, which was gushing myrrh. Hence she took the name "Myrope", which over the years was transformed into "Meropi".
During the persecutions of Christians, she escaped with her mother for the island of Chios, a place of origin of her mother. There, Meropi followed her Christian life with great devotion.
When the soldier Isidoros martyred for his faith, Saint Meropi did not hesitate to bury his relic secretly, an act banned by idolatrous ruler Noumelios.
Enraged by the actions of Saint Meropi, Noumerios ordered her severe torture that led to her death.
Troparion of Saint Meropi
Your lamb Myrope calls out to You, O Jesus, in a loud voice: / “I love You, my Bridegroom, and in seeking You I endure suffering. / In Baptism I was crucified so that I might reign in You, / and I died so that I might live with You. / Accept me as a pure sacrifice, / for I have offered myself in love.” / Through her prayers, save our souls, since You are merciful.
