Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Ifigeneia.
Saint Ifigeneia was born in Tokat in Pontus to idolater parents who were baptized Christians by Apostle Andrew. During the reign of Nero, the Christians were expelled and the family of Saint Ifigeneia, together with her, was imprisoned and suffered horrible tortures. Specifically, Saint Iphigenia, who was only fifteen years old, was amputated.
Responsible for her torture was the governor Mark who regretted his actions but was obliged to kill her. Shortly before Saint Ifigeneia died, Mark asked her for forgiveness, which he received.
Embracing Christianity, Mark preached God's truth throughout Pontus.
