Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of the Holy Forefathers Joachim and Anne.
Saint Joachim was from the tribe of Judah and married Anne, who was from the tribe of Levi and Mary. Together they lived a humble life and were blessed with giving birth to the Virgin Mary.
The Birth of the Virgin Mary was joyful news for her parents, Joachim and Anne, as they were unable to have a child. After much prayer, and after they had decided that if they have blessed with a child the will dedicate it to God, they received a divine message that their wish would come true.
Joachim and Anne were the Holy Forefathers of Jesus Christ.
