Handmade Byzantine Icon of Saint Parasceve, the Great Martyr, of Rome.
Saint Parasceve was born in Rome to Christian parents who raised her with the Word of God. When her parents passed away, Saint Parasceve gave her property to the poor and devoted herself to preach Christianity.
The Roman Emperor Antoninus demanded from Saint Parasceve to convert, but she strongly refused and as a result she was sentenced to torture. Despite being immersed in a cauldron of hot oil, she miraculously survived. When Antoninus approached to ascertain what was happening, he was blinded. After Saint Parasceve miraculously healed him, Antoninos freed her to continue her work.
With the new persecution instituted by Antoninus' successor, Marcus Aurelius, Saint Parasceve was beheaded.
