Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Aemilian.
Saint Aemilian was born in today's Silistra, Bulgaria, in the years of Julian the Transgressor. He served as a slave to a pagan, who, when he found out about Aemilian's faith, became enraged and tortured him.
However, Saint Aemilian did not waver and fought with vigor against the pagans, even destroying a temple with idols. For this act, he was imprisoned and severely tortured. In order to exterminate him completely, they threw him into the fire.
Troparion of Saint Aemilian
Holy martyr Emilian, / you defended the Church against the idolatry of the pagans. / Because of your faith in Christ, / you were martyred by fire and through a glorious death received your crown. / Pray to Christ God that He may grant us great mercy.
