Saint Athanasius the Great was born in 295 AD in Alexandria and from a young age he developed his theological gifts and at the age of 25 he was ordained a deacon in Nicaea, Bithynia.
His charitable activity was great and he vigorously opposed the persecution of Christians. He left a great written work and his teaching became known throughout the world.
In 328 AD he was elected Patriarch of Alexandria and in 373 AD he died.
The Holy Relics of Saint Athanasius are kept in some Monasteries of Mount Athos and in other Monasteries of Greece.
