Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Nicholaos Planas.
Saint Nicholaos Planas was born in 1851 in Naxos in a Christian family. His grandfather was a priest and, from a young age, Nicholaos expressed the desire to be close to God.
With the death of his father, Nicholaos settled with his mother in Athens and, a few years later, married Eleni Proveleggiou, who died giving birth to their first child.
After his widowhood, Nicholaos decided to dedicate himself to the Church, which he did. He was ordained a deacon and then an elder while he became known for his miracles and the ascetic life he followed.
In 1982, after his morning service at the Church of Saint John on Vouliagmenis Street, he died. His holy relics are kept inside the Temple.
