Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Aristides.
Saint Aristides came from Athens and had a philosophical education. He was baptized a Christian and acted in favor of the persecuted believers. He wrote the well-known "Apology of Aristides", which he presented to Emperor Hadrian in Rome.
Then, he was taken back to Athens and hanged in the Ancient Agora.
