Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Theodora of Vasta.
Saint Theodora of Vasta was born in the 9th century AD and was originally from the Peloponnese. From an early age, her parents taught her the Word of God, which Saint Theodora followed faithfully.
When she came of age, she decided to follow the monastic life. For an unknown reason, he chose the Panaitsa Monastery, which is for male monks, and introduced herself there as Theodoros.
Even so, her virtues stood out and she soon became a valued member of the community. However, during the period when there was a famine in the region and Theodora came down to the city as Theodoros to help the people and provide everything she could for the monastery, a woman accused her of getting her pregnant.
Upon her arrest, Saint Theodora did not reveal her true identity and remained true to her decision to hide her gender. The revelation of her true identity became known after her beheading in the village of Vasta.
