Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Veronica.
Saint Veronica came from the city of Paneada.
According to the Gospels of Matthew, Luke and Mark, Saint Veronica suffered from a hemorrhage, which was healed by Jesus Christ. To please the Lord, Saint Veronica created a statue in His honor for the faithful to worship. According to tradition, a plant with healing properties grew at its base.
In addition, Saint Veronica is said to have wiped the face of Jesus Christ with a handkerchief, as He headed towards Calvary, and His face was imprinted on it. The fabric became known as "Veronica's Handkerchief".

The image of God was truly preserved in you, O Mother, For you took up the Cross and followed Christ. By so doing, you taught us to disregard the flesh, for it passes away, But to care instead for the soul, since it is immortal. Therefore your spirit, O Holy Mother Veronica, rejoices with the Angels!
