Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Nikodemos of Mount Athos.
Saint Nikodemos of Mount Athos was born in Naxos in 1749 and grew up with a Christian education. He studied with Archimandrite Chrysanthos and was further educated at the Greek School of Smyrna.
In 1775, he went to Dionysiou Monastery, on Mount Athos, where he became a monk and then he served as reader and secretary of the Monastery. During his monastic years he wrote many books, which have survived to this day and are important theological work.
He died in 1809 and was canonized by the Ecumenical Patriarchate in 1955.
