Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Constantine of Hydra.
Saint Constantine left the island of Hydra where he was born for Rhodes, the island where the Turkish ruler Hasan Kapetan was. After being tempted by the life he enjoyed at the ruler's side, he decided to convert.
Nevertheless, three years later, he realized his mistake and wanted to testify his true faith in order to atone. As his spiritual master in Rhodes did not leave him, Saint Constantine traveled to Mount Athos and received the blessing from the monks of the Iberon Monastery.
When he returned to Rhodes, he confessed his faith in Jesus Christ and was severely tortured until his beheading in 1800. His holy relic is kept in a temple of Hydra built in his honor.
Apolytikion of Saint Constantine of Hydra
Constantine of Hydra, the most-precious shield, the boast of Neomartyrs, who struggled on Rhodes, in hymns and spiritual odes, let us providently honor him O brethren, who suffered for Christ, and received death by hanging. Therefore he rules together with Christ, and he grants abundant healing greater in number than the sand to all who flee to him.
