Handmade Byzantine Icon of Panagia The Paramythia. Panagia is depicted holding Jesus Christ is her arms.
According to tradition, during the 14th century, the Abbot of Holy Monastery of Vatopedi was praying in the exonarthex of the Church when he heard a voice telling him not to open the gates of the Monastery that day, as pirates had surrounded the building. Then, the Abbot saw the Icon of the Panagia changing its form. The face of Panagia came alive together with that of Jesus Christ, who even raised his hand to cover her mouth.
Jesus Christ addressed his mother and told her not to warn the monks and let them be punished. However, Panagia repeated the warning about the pirates and advised the Abbot to repent in the name of the Lord.
Since then, the miraculous Icon of Panagia was named "Paramythia" meaning "calming down" and is located in a Chapel of the Holy Monastery of Vatopedi dedicated to her.
The Icon of Panagia The Paramythia is an exact copy of Byzantine art and is created by experienced craftsmen using the method of gold printing where hagiographic leaves of 22 karat gold are applied in detail to decorate the background.
During the final processing, the icon is painted with dark red color around the perimeter and polished with a special varnish to maintain its shine.
It is offered in level or recessed wooden surface and is suitable for wall mounting.
