Handmade Byzantine Icon of Virgin Mary and Child. Virgin Mary is depicted according to the "Sweet Kissing" type.
In the Old Town of Naxos, there is the Temple of "Saint Mary of the Snows", in honor of the corresponding temple in Rome.
Virgin Mary bears the nickname "of the Snows" after a vision in which she was presented to a Roman noble and also to Pope Liverius. Virgin Mary asked them both to build a Temple on the spot, where snow would fall the next day.
Indeed, at dawn they noticed that one of the seven hills of Rome, the Esquilino, was covered with snow. Then, by order of the Pope, a Church dedicated to the "Saint Mary of the Snows" was built.
The Icon of Panagia "Sweet Kissing" is an exact copy of Byzantine art and is created by experienced craftsmen using the method of gold printing where hagiographic leaves of 22 karat gold are applied in detail to decorate the background.
During the final processing, the icon is painted with dark red color around the perimeter and polished with a special varnish to maintain its shine.
It is offered in level or recessed wooden surface and is suitable for wall mounting.
