Saint Nectarius, Metropolitan of Pentapolis - Byzantine Icon

[Model: BYZ_st-2782]

Handmade Byzantine Icon of Saint Nectarius, Metropolitan of Pentapolis.

Saint Nectarius was born in 1846 in Thrace. He arrived in Chios at the age of 20 and took up the position of teacher which he soon rejected as he decided to dedicate himself to the monastic life.

At the urging of a local ruler, Saint Nectarius went to Athens to finish his high school studies and then went to Alexandria, to Patriarch Sophronius. Impressed by his progress, Sophronius, sent him back to Athens to study at the Higher Theological School, which he did. His education helped him to quickly rise through the ranks when he returned to Alexandria and in 1889 he was proclaimed Metropolitan of Pentapolis.

After slander against him and despite all the adversities he went through, Saint Nectarius was appointed director of the Rizareios School.

In 1904 he founded a nunnery in Aegina where he isolated himself and practiced his ascetic life. He died peacefully in 1920 and was buried in the Monastery of the Holy Trinity of the island.

Apolytikion

O faithful, let us honor Nektarios, divine servant of Christ, offspring of Silivria and guardian of Aegina, who in these latter years was manifested as the true friend of virtue. All manner of healing wells forth for those who in piety cry out, "Glory to Christ who glorified you; glory to Him who, through you, wrought wonders; glory to Him who, through you, works healing for all."

The Icon of Saint Nectarius is an exact copy of Byzantine art and is created by experienced craftsmen using the method of gold printing where hagiographic leaves of 22 karat gold are applied in detail to decorate the background.

During the final processing, the icon is painted with dark red color around the perimeter and polished with a special varnish to maintain its shine.

It is offered in level or recessed wooden surface and is suitable for wall mounting.
