Handmade Byzantine Icon of Saint Matthias the Apostle.
Saint Matthias the Apostle was one of the faithful followers of Jesus Christ. After the hanging of Judas and the Ascension of the Lord, the Apostle Peter advised the other Disciples to elect a new disciple to help them in their noble work. The Disciples accepted and chose two candidates, Joseph called Varsavas and Matthias. The casting of the lots appointed Matthias to be one of the Disciples.
Saint Matthias the Apostle spread the work of God, like the rest of the Apostles, and died a martyr's death in Ethiopia.
