Handmade Byzantine Icon of Saint Marcella, Martyr of Chios.
Saint Marcella was born and raised in Volissos, Chios, from a pagan father and a Christian mother.
She embraced Christianity and when her mother passed away, Marcella remained devoted to God but her father wanted to force her to convert.
Marcella decided to run away from home but her father chased after her (according to many he had incestuous thoughts in mind for her) and wounded her with a bow on a rock near the sea. In her last moments of martyrdom, Marcella prayed to Jesus Christ to hide her in the rock, as He did.
Since then there are many miracles performed by Saint Marcella and her memory is honored with a great feast in Chios.
Apolytikion
Submitting to the laws of the Lord's divine teachings, you strove to keep them blamelessly, O Martyr Markella. And fearing the violence of your father, you fled from him and dwelt in the mountains. Pursuing you he found you and slew you, O undefiled bride of Christ. Glory to Him who strengthened you. Glory to Him who crowned you. Glory to Him who works healings for all through you.
The Icon of Saint Marcella is an exact copy of Byzantine art and is created by experienced craftsmen using the method of gold printing where hagiographic leaves of 22 karat gold are applied in detail to decorate the background.
During the final processing, the icon is painted with dark red color around the perimeter and polished with a special varnish to maintain its shine.
It is offered in level or recessed wooden surface and is suitable for wall mounting.
