Saint Marina, the Great Martyr, of Antioch - Byzantine Icon

[Model: BYZ_st-6951]

Handmade Byzantine Icon of Saint Marina, the Great Martyr, of Antioch.

Saint Marina came from Antioch in Asia Minor. As her mother died shortly after giving birth, her idolater father entrusted her upbringing to a Christian woman from whom Saint Marina met and embraced Christianity.

When she reached the age of fifteen, the ruler Olymbrios ordered her arrest because of her faith. However, as soon as he saw her, he was charmed by her beauty and proposed that she convert and become his wife, a proposal which Saint Marina rejected defending Christ.

After this rejection, Olymbrios subjected her to severe torture from which she miraculously survived. Learning of the miracles of Saint Marina, many converted to Christianity, which angered Olymbrius who finally ordered her beheading.

Apolytikion

O Lord Jesus, unto Thee Thy lamb doth cry with a great voice: O my Bridegroom, Thee I love; and seeking Thee, I now contest, and with Thy baptism am crucified and buried. I suffer for Thy sake, that I may reign with Thee; for Thy sake I die, that I may live in Thee: accept me offered out of longing to Thee as a spotless sacrifice. Lord, save our souls through her intercessions, since Thou art great in mercy.

Kontakion

Adorned with the beauty of Purity, O Virgin; crowned with the stigmata of martyrdom; stained with the blood of your struggles; and brilliantly radiant with healing wonders, piously, O Marina, you received the trophy of victory for your struggles.

The Icon of Saint Marina, the Great Martyr, of Antioch is an exact copy of Byzantine art and is created by experienced craftsmen using the method of gold printing where hagiographic leaves of 22 karat gold are applied in detail to decorate the background.

During the final processing, the icon is painted with dark red color around the perimeter and polished with a special varnish to maintain its shine.

It is offered in level or recessed wooden surface and is suitable for wall mounting.
