Handmade Byzantine Icon of the Repose of Saint Ephraim the Syrian.
Saint Ephraim was born in Mesopotamia and grew up with a Christian education. He was distinguished for his knowledge and his virtues, which he very often used to defend his faith against heretics.
When the Persians subdued his city, Saint Ephraim went to Edessa, where he followed an ascetic life.
He died peacefully in 373 AD and part of his holy relic is kept in the Monastery of Great Lavra on Mount Athos.

By a flood of tears you made the desert fertile, / and your longing for God brought forth fruits in abundance. / By the radiance of miracles you illumined the whole universe! / Our Father Ephraim, pray to Christ God to save our souls!
