Handmade Byzantine Icon of Saint Anthony the Great.
Saint Anthony the Great was born in 251 in Egypt and was the first hermit of Christianity. His story begins after the death of his parents when he donated his great fortune to the poor and placed his sister with a group of Christian Virgins, in order to flee to the desert and become an ascetic.
There, he lived away from the world with many privations and his soul struggled. Nevertheless, he was able to curb his passions and thus reached a higher level of religious spirit.
Saint Anthony the Great died at the age of 105 and became an example for many monks.
