Handmade Byzantine Icon of Saints Cosmas and Damian, the Holy Unmercenaries.
The brothers Cosmas and Damian, also known as "the Holy Unmercenaries", acted as doctors during the empire of Karinus, without monetary remuneration but with the exhortation for the sick to believe in Christ.
After being accused of witchcraft, Saints Cosmas and Damian were brought before the emperor who asked them to deny Christianity. They did not accept but another miraculous event happened during their interrogation: Karinus' head changed position. The Saints healed him with prayer and Marinus was convinced and converted to Christianity.
However, because of the great spread of their name and their cures, their teacher stoned them to death.
Sainted Unmercenaries and Wonder Workers, regard our infirmities; freely you have received, freely share with us.
Having received the grace of healing, ye extend health to those in need, O glorious and wonderworking physicians. Hence, by your visitation, cast down the audacity of our enemies, and by your miracles, heal the world.
The Icon of Saints Cosmas and Damian, the Holy Unmercenaries is an exact copy of Byzantine art and is created by experienced craftsmen using the method of gold printing where hagiographic leaves of 22 karat gold are applied in detail to decorate the background.
