Handmade Byzantine Icon of Saint Aquila the Apostle.
Saint Aquila the Apostole lived, together with his wife Priscilla, in Rome. The decree of Claudius, which expelled all Jews from Rome, forced them to settle in Corinth, where they met the Apostle Paul after his missionary tour of Athens.
They were baptised by Apostle Paul and decided to follow him in his great work of preaching the Gospel. Years passed and the blessed couple, Saint Aquila the Apostle and Priscilla, returned to Rome, but Aquila soon left for missionary work in Asia. Priscilla followed him faithfully.
Their Christian activity angered their opponents, who finally beheaded them.
