Handmade Byzantine Icon of Panagia Galaktotrofousa. Panagia is depicting nursing the Christ Child.
The Icon of Panagia Galaktotrofousa was originally located in Holy Lavra of Saint Savvas.
Before he died, Saint Savvas instructed the people close to him to give the Icon of Panagia Galaktotrofousa to a man named Savvas who would one day visit Holy Lavra. In the 13th century, Saint Savvas, Archibishop of Serbia, arrived in Lavra, thus fulfilling the prophecy and received the Icon which transferred to the Holy Monastery of Chilandari on Mount Athos.
Now, it is located in the church of Karies of Mount Athos, which is subject to the Holy Monastery of Chilandari, and it is placed on the right side of the iconostasis where the image of Jesus Christ is traditionally located.
The Icon of Panagia Galaktotrofousa is an exact copy of Byzantine art and is created by experienced craftsmen using the method of gold printing where hagiographic leaves of 22 karat gold are applied in detail to decorate the background.
During the final processing, the icon is painted with dark red color around the perimeter and polished with a special varnish to maintain its shine.
It is offered in level or recessed wooden surface and is suitable for wall mounting.
