James the Apostle is called "Brother of God" because he was a son of Joseph, and by extension the brother of Jesus Christ, before his marriage to the Virgin Mary. Although he did not initially follow his brother's teaching, he finally believed in His power when He appeared before him, after the Resurrection.
From that moment, he devoted himself to the spread of Christianity and became the first Bishop of Jerusalem. According to tradition, James the Apostle composed the first Divine Liturgy, which was later edited again by Basil the Great and Saint John Chrysostom.
His righteous leadership, as well as his steadfast faith and service to the Lord, angered the Jews, who beat him to death.

The Icon of James the Apostle is an exact copy of Byzantine art and is created by experienced craftsmen using the method of gold printing where hagiographic leaves of 22 karat gold are applied in detail to decorate the background.
During the final processing, the icon is painted with dark red color around the perimeter and polished with a special varnish to maintain its shine.
