Handmade Byzantine Icon of Saint Theodora the Empress of Byzantium.
Saint Theodora was born in Paphlagonia in 815 AD and at a young age she married the Emperor Theophilos. She had a deep faith in icons and, although iconoclasm prevailed, she worshiped them secretly in her apartments.
With the death of her husband, Saint Theodora assumed leadership and with a Holy Synod restored the icons. She led many powerful people to Orthodoxy and encouraged the faith of her entire kingdom.
Her decisions were opposed by her brother Vardas, who, when the right condition arose, locked Saint Theodora and her daughters in a monastery. All together followed a monastic life.
Saint Theodora passed away peacefully in 867 AD.

The Icon of Saint Theodora the Empress of Byzantium is an exact copy of Byzantine art and is created by experienced craftsmen using the method of gold printing where hagiographic leaves of 22 karat gold are applied in detail to decorate the background.
During the final processing, the icon is painted with dark red color around the perimeter and polished with a special varnish to maintain its shine.
