Handmade Byzantine Icon of Saint Gregory of Nyssa.
Saint Gregory was born in Neocaesarea in Pontus in 332 and was the brother of Saint Basil the Great. Like his brother, he studied and was distinguished for his virtues, which brought him to the position of bishop of Nyssa.
As he opposed the Arians, he was falsely accused of abusing money and power and, for this reason, was forced to leave his office for some years. On his return, he was deified by the faithful of Nyssa, as well as by his colleagues.
Saint Gregory left a remarkable work of great theological importance and was name "the Father of Fathers".
