Handmade Byzantine Icon of Saint Anastasia of Rome.
Saint Anastasia was born in Rome to a wealthy family and was known for her beauty. She grew up with a Christian education, which prompted her to give away all her wealth to the poor when her parents died. She became a nun and followed a humble life.
Around 256 AD, the ruler Probus arrested her and demanded that she deny Jesus Christ, because of her beauty. When Saint Anastasia refused to do what he asked, Probus ordered her torture and beheading.
Troparion of Saint Anastasia of Rome
Your lamb Anastasia, calls out to You, O Jesus, in a loud voice: / “I love You, my Bridegroom, and in seeking You I endure suffering. / In baptism I was crucified so that I might reign in You, / and I died so that I might live with You. / Accept me as a pure sacrifice, / for I have offered myself in love.” / Through her prayers save our souls, since You are merciful.
The Icon of Saint Anastasia of Rome is an exact copy of Byzantine art and is created by experienced craftsmen using the method of gold printing where hagiographic leaves of 22 karat gold are applied in detail to decorate the background.
During the final processing, the icon is painted with dark red color around the perimeter and polished with a special varnish to maintain its shine.
