Handmade Byzantine Icon of Saint Romanos the Melodos.
Romanos the Melodos was a special form of hymnology and about a thousand hymns are attributed to him, which praise despotic celebrations, lives of Saints and Apostles as well as well-known parables.
Although not much information about his life is known, we do know that Romanos the Melodos was born in Syria to a Jewish family and was baptized a Christian at a young age. Later, he was ordained a deacon in Beirut and then went to Constantinople and served as a novice in Hagia Sophia.
According to Christian tradition, his appeal to poetry and music was born after a vision he saw with the Virgin Mary, who gave him a piece of parchment to eat.
