Handmade Byzantine Icon of Saint Irenaeus.
Saint Irenaeus was born in Smyrna during the reign of Marcus Aurelius. He was a disciple of Saint Polykarpos, Bishop of Smyrna, and after some years he went, for unknown reasons, to Lugdunum in Galatia, where he succeeded Bishop Pothinos.
He left a large literary work and acted against heresies. He was captured during the persecutions of Septimius Severus, horribly tortured and beheaded.
Kontakion of Saint Irenaeus
As one who lived piously among Hierarchs and who underwent martyrdom, / O divinely-wise one, / you extinguished the sacrifices of idolatry / and showed yourself to be a protector of your flock. / Therefore, we fervently cry out to you: / “By your intercessions, deliver us from all misfortunes, / O Irenaeus our Father.”
The Icon of Saint Irenaeus is an exact copy of Byzantine art and is created by experienced craftsmen using the method of gold printing where hagiographic leaves of 22 karat gold are applied in detail to decorate the background.
During the final processing, the icon is painted with dark red color around the perimeter and polished with a special varnish to maintain its shine.
It is offered in level or recessed wooden surface and is suitable for wall mounting.
