Handmade Byzantine Icon of Saint Matrona of Chios.
At first, Osia Matrona was called Maria but changed her name when she was ordained. He was born and raised in Volissos of Chios in a religious family. Unlike her sisters, Matrona never desired family life but chose the monastic community when her parents died.
By selling her property, she raised money to build a monastery and a temple. For her meekness and faith, the nuns elected her Abbess. She died peacefully in 1462.
Apolytikion of Saint Matrona
[Faithfully] following the steps of Christ [our God], you left behind you all the pleasures of the world, and imitated in the flesh the lifestyle of the angels. Wherefore with the gifts bestowed by the Spirit you brightened up your homeland, the Island of Chios, O Maiden extolled by all. And therefore it cries out to you joyfully: Rejoice, O all-honorable Matrona.
The Icon of Saint Matrona of Chios is an exact copy of Byzantine art and is created by experienced craftsmen using the method of gold printing where hagiographic leaves of 22 karat gold are applied in detail to decorate the background.
During the final processing, the icon is painted with dark red color around the perimeter and polished with a special varnish to maintain its shine.
It is offered in level or recessed wooden surface and is suitable for wall mounting.
