Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Saint Eudokia.
Saint Eudokia was born in a city in the province of Heliopolis in Phoenicia and lived a sinful life with many lovers. Once, when she became seriously ill, she left her town for about a year before returning again.
On her return, she stayed at the edge of town, so as not to be recognized by anyone, and a monk persuaded her to repent. She was baptized a Christian after a vision she saw and started a charitable work.
When she was denounced for her loyalty to the ruler Aurelian, and later to Diogenes, Saint Eudokia convinced everyone of her religion with her miracles. Nevertheless, on the order of King Vincent, she was beheaded.
Troparion of Saint Eudokia
With an upright mind you bound your soul to the love of Christ. / As a disciple of the Word you turned from corruption and all that passes away, / for you were not moved by earthly beauty. / First you mortified the passions through fasting, then you put the enemy to shame by your suffering. / Therefore, Christ has granted you a two-fold crown. / Glorious Eudokia, venerable passion-bearer, entreat Christ God that our souls may be saved!
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Saint Eudokia is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
Note: The final Icon may slightly differ from the catalog photo.
