Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Phanurius, the Great Martyr.
Saint Phanurius was unknown to the Christian Church until the 14th century AD when his icon was found in Rhodes, depicting him as a young soldier with the twelve martyrdoms painted around him.
A Holy Temple was rebuilt on the spot and Saint Phanurius became the island's patron saint. The miracles are many and are remembered by the Christian Church and the faithful.
On the eve of his feast, the congregation make "Fanouropita", a pie that looks like a small loaf of bread, which they distribute to the poor, while tradition says that the pie can "reveal" (as its name suggests) things to those who make it.

A heavenly song of praise is brightly sung on the earth; * the hosts of the Angels keep an earthly festival now in splendor and radiant joy; * from on high, they praise with hymns the suff'rings and struggles; * and below, the Church doth laud the heavenly glory * thou foundest by thy contests and pains, O glorious Phanurius.
