Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Euphrosyne of Alexandria.
Saint Euphrosyne was born in Alexandria to a wealthy family. After her mother's death, her father wanted to marry the teenage Euphrosyne to a powerful man.
However, Saint Euphrosyne had dedicated herself to the teaching of Jesus Christ and, for this reason, she isolated herself in a male monastery, taking the name Smaragdos.
Several times she met with her father, without him knowing her real identity. She passed away peacefully after forty years of monasticism.
Apolytikion of Saint Euphrosyne
The image of God, was faithfully preserved in you, O Mother. For you took up the Cross and followed Christ. By Your actions you taught us to look beyond the flesh for it passes, rather to be concerned about the soul which is immortal. Wherefore, O Holy Euphrosyne, your soul rejoices with the angels.
